Published on August 15, 2025
**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
(Clifton, N.J. – August 15, 2025) – Passaic Valley Water Commission announces that for customers of Passaic Valley Water Commission NJ1605002 located in the areas of Broadway and all streets South of Broadway, East of Spruce St and West of Rt 20 THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY IS LIFTED and it is no longer necessary to boil your water before using.
Customers in Paterson NOT included in the specified area above and customers of Manchester Utilities Authority NJ1603001 in North Haledon and Haledon Boroughs remain under a Boil Water Advisory.
Customers of Passaic Valley Water Commission were notified on 08/08/2025 of a possible problem with the drinking water due to a water main break and were advised to boil the tap water before using as a precautionary measure.
The following measures are strongly encouraged at this time:
- Run your hot and cold water faucets for 8-10 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with water from the service main.
- Thoroughly clean or replace your shower heads and faucet aerators (screens). Additional guidance is available from the NJ Department of Health here.
- Drain and refill your hot water heater. Keep your water heater set to a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature will reduce the risk of Legionella growth and avoid potential for scalding (hot water burns). Additional guidance is available from the NJ Department of Health here.
- Homes and buildings with water softeners/cartridge filters should run them through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.
- Refrigerator water-dispensing machine: Flush water dispensing machine for at least five minutes before using it for household purposes. For more information, including whether filters should be replaced, refer to manufacturer specifications.
- Ice machines: Empty automatic ice dispensers of ice made prior to shut down and run through a 24-hour cycle. Discard this ice to assure purging of the icemaker's water supply line. Ice machines, like other water-using devices, may require additional cleaning steps in addition to flushing. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for further cleaning and disinfection procedures
- Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled.
