Passaic Valley Water Commission Lifts Boil Water Advisory for Majority of Paterson and Prospect Park

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

(Passaic County, N.J. – August 31, 2025) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC – NJ1605002) announces that the Boil Water Advisory issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, has been lifted for most customers in Paterson and for the entire Borough of Prospect Park.

Extensive water quality testing, conducted in close coordination with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and local health officials, confirms that the water is safe to drink, except for the following areas in Paterson, due to an interconnection with Manchester Utilities Authority (MUA), which has not yet lifted its boil water advisory:

  • Katz Ave
  • Kearney St between Katz Ave and Granite Ave
  • Granite Ave between Redwood Ave and West Broadway
  • West Broadway between Katz Ave and Granite Ave
  • Jasper St between Katz Ave and Granite Ave

Customers served by the MUA (NJ1603001) in Haledon and North Haledon remain under boil water advisory until it is lifted by the MUA. These customers must continue to boil water for at least one minute before use until further notice.

Recommended Customer Actions

PVWC strongly encourages customers in areas where the advisory has been lifted to take the following precautionary steps to ensure clean water flows through their home plumbing and appliances:

  • Run all cold-water faucets for about 8–10 minutes to flush service connections and interior plumbing.
  • Thoroughly clean or replace showerheads and faucet aerators (screens).
  • Drain and refill your hot water heater (set to a minimum of 120°F to reduce the risk of Legionella growth while avoiding scalding).
  • Empty and clean automatic ice makers, water dispensers, and water chillers. Run ice makers through a full 24-hour cycle and discard the ice.
  • Flush refrigerator water dispensers for at least five minutes. Check manufacturer recommendations for filter replacement.
  • Regenerate or service water softeners/cartridge filters as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Drain and refill water reservoirs in tall buildings.

“We thank our customers for their patience and cooperation throughout this boil water advisory,” said Executive Director Jim Mueller. “We also thank our dedicated employees and contractor J. Fletcher Creamer for working tirelessly to restore service and ensure water quality. This event underscores the importance of PVWC’s capital replacement program, which is designed to modernize aging infrastructure and strengthen system reliability.”
