PVWC’s Partnership with SHARES Provides Water Bill Assistance
Published on November 19, 2025
(Clifton, N.J. – November 18, 2025) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is reminding customers who are behind on their water bills that help is available through its partnership with the SHARES Municipal Customer Assistance Program (MCAP). This program provides financial support to income-qualified households experiencing temporary financial hardship, such as job loss, illness, or other unexpected challenges.
Through SHARES, eligible households can receive up to $200 in grants per utility (water, sewer, or electric) each year. These funds are applied directly to customers’ utility accounts to help reduce arrears balances.
“We know that some of our customers are experiencing financial hardships and may be struggling to catch up on past-due bills,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller. “Our partnership with SHARES ensures that families in need can maintain access to safe, reliable water service while working toward financial stability.”
To qualify, applicants must:
- Have an active utility account and be in arrears on their water bill.
- Meet income guidelines (households earning at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level).
- Provide documentation such as proof of income, identification, and recent utility bills.
The assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis until program funds are exhausted. Grants cover consumption charges only and do not apply to deposits or reconnection fees.
PVWC encourages customers who are struggling to apply as soon as possible to avoid further account penalties or service disruption. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, visit https://sharesnation.org.
