Passaic Valley Water Commission Restores Service to 30-Inch Water Main – Normal Pressures Returning in Parts of Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon and North Haledon – Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect for Some Areas

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

(Paterson, N.J. – August 18, 2025) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) announced today that the 30-inch water main disrupted since August 8 at Paterson’s Great Falls has been restored to service.

Operating pressures began rising almost immediately, and portions of Paterson and Prospect Park are returning to normal. The Manchester Utilities Authority (MUA), which operates the Haledon and North Haledon water systems, also confirmed yesterday that those towns are now experiencing normal operating pressures.

Next Phase of Work
PVWC crews continue to work around the clock on the 24-inch pipeline at Great Falls, which is expected to be placed back into service this week. Once complete, the distribution system will return to full normal operating conditions. Over the past four days, crews have installed approximately 600 feet of new 24-inch and 30-inch pipe segments and valves, replacing infrastructure more than 140 years old.

Boil Water Advisory
In coordination with the NJDEP, PVWC has already lifted the Boil Water Advisory for nearly 77,000 customers—specifically in parts of Paterson including Broadway and all streets south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street, and west of Route 20.

The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for:

  • Customers in Paterson outside of the specified area above
  • Customers served by Manchester Utilities Authority (NJ1603001) in North Haledon and Haledon

Residents and businesses still under the advisory should boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or making ice—or use bottled water—until notified that the water is safe.

Customer Safety Reminder
PVWC’s water quality testing crews wear official uniforms and carry photo ID badges. Do not open your door to anyone without proper credentials. If someone claims to be conducting water quality tests but cannot show ID, do not let them in and immediately contact your local police department.

Looking Ahead
“This critical repair underscores the importance of PVWC’s capital replacement program,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller. “By modernizing aging infrastructure, we can reduce system vulnerabilities and ensure reliable, safe water service for our customers.”
