Important Safety Notice: Properly Identifying PVWC Employees
Published on March 31, 2026
(Clifton, NJ – March 31, 2026) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is alerting all customers about a recent concern regarding individuals knocking on doors in the area, claiming to be PVWC employees. These reports include a company identifying itself as “Water Quality Control Association” falsely representing PVWC. Considering these incidents, it is essential that residents can properly identify legitimate PVWC workers and avoid potential scams or safety risks.
How to Identify a PVWC Employee:
• Official Identification Badge: All PVWC employees are required to carry a photo ID badge with the PVWC logo. The badge includes the employee’s name and photograph. If you are unsure about the authenticity of the individual at your door, please ask to see their ID badge.
• Uniforms and Vehicles: PVWC employees working in the field will be wearing clearly marked uniforms and driving vehicles with the Passaic Valley Water Commission logo. These vehicles are also equipped with official signage that identifies them as part of our utility operations.
• Scheduled Visits: Most of the work PVWC employees perform is pre-scheduled and residents are notified in advance by mail, phone, social media, or PVWC Alerts, our free notification system. If you are unsure whether a visit is legitimate, please contact PVWC’s customer service team at 973-340-4300 (option 2) for verification.
• No Unannounced Solicitation: PVWC employees will never ask for payment or donations in person. If someone claims to be from PVWC and asks for money, do not engage with them and contact local authorities immediately.
• Authorized Contractors: PVWC does utilize properly identified contractors for specific work. Currently, National Metering Services (Kearny, NJ) and MeterTek Utility Services (Kenilworth, NJ) are authorized to replace water meters within our service area. These contractors carry proper identification and should be able to verify their affiliation upon request.
What To Do If You Suspect Fraudulent Activity:
• Do Not Let Anyone Inside: If you are uncertain about the identity of a person at your door, do not allow them entry into your home.
• Contact Local Authorities: If you believe someone is impersonating a PVWC employee, immediately contact local authorities.
• Verify with PVWC: Residents can always call PVWC directly at 973-340-4300 (Option 2) to verify if an employee or authorized contractor is scheduled to visit their home.
We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves from potential fraud.
