PVWC Celebrates “Fix a Leak Week” to Promote Water Conservation
Published on March 16, 2026
(Clifton, NJ – March 16, 2026) –Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is joining communities nationwide in celebrating “Fix a Leak Week,” an annual water-efficiency awareness campaign sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This year’s observance runs from March 16 through March 22, 2026, and encourages residents to check their homes and properties for hidden water leaks.
Even small drips can waste significant amounts of water over time — and fixing leaks is one of the easiest ways homeowners can contribute to water conservation. According to the EPA, household leaks can waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water annually across the United States. For more information on Fix a Leak Week and helpful leak-detection tips, visit the EPA’s official page: https://www.epa.gov/watersense/fix-leak-week.
“Water conservation is essential for the long-term sustainability of our local water supply,” said Jim Mueller, Executive Director of Passaic Valley Water Commission. “Participating in Fix a Leak Week helps raise awareness about everyday opportunities residents have to save water and reduce utility costs.”
How Residents Can Participate
• Check all faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems for drips or moisture.
• Watch for signs of hidden leaks — such as high water bills, damp spots, or running toilets.
• Test your toilet for leaks using food coloring in the tank; if color appears in the bowl without flushing, a leak may be present.
• Inspect outdoor hoses, spigots, and sprinkler systems for leaks after winter weather.
Simple fixes like replacing worn washers, tightening fittings, or repairing a toilet flapper can often stop leaks quickly and prevent unnecessary water waste.
Passaic Valley Water Commission encourages all residents and businesses to take part in Fix a Leak Week and make water conservation a year-round priority.
