PVWC Highlights Importance of Fire Hydrant Maintenance
Published on May 15, 2026
(Clifton, N.J. – May 15, 2026)
– Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is reminding customers that annual hydrant flushing and maintenance are essential to maintaining reliable water service and supporting public safety throughout its service area.
As part of the program, which is currently underway, PVWC crews inspect and operate hydrants to help ensure they are functioning properly for emergency response needs while also removing sediment buildup from water mains and maintaining proper water flow.
“Hydrant maintenance is critical to protecting our communities and ensuring hydrants are ready when needed most,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller.
PVWC also contracts with local fire departments throughout Paterson, Passaic, Clifton, and surrounding communities for assisting with hydrant inspections and reporting hydrant issues that require maintenance or repair.
During flushing activities, customers may temporarily experience low water pressure or water discoloration. Customers experiencing discoloration should run cold water until it clears and avoid doing laundry until water returns to normal.
