PVWC will begin shutting off delinquent accounts on Monday 3/16/2026

(Clifton, NJ – March 13, 2026) –Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) will begin shutting off water service to residential and commercial accounts with overdue balances starting Monday, March 16, 2026, following the conclusion of New Jersey’s Winter Termination Program.
The Winter Termination Program protects specific categories of customers from having their water, wastewater, gas, or electricity service shut off between November 15 and March 15 each year. With the program ending on March 15, utilities may resume service disconnections for accounts that remain delinquent and are not otherwise protected.
Customers with past-due balances are urged to take immediate action to avoid service interruption. PVWC encourages anyone experiencing financial hardship to contact Customer Service at 973-340-4300 (option 2) to discuss available assistance and payment plan options. To help its valued customers, PVWC partnered with SHARES in 2025 to provide much-needed assistance to households struggling to pay their water bills. The SHARES Municipal Customer Assistance Program (MCAP) is designed to support income-qualified households facing temporary financial hardship, including job loss, illness, or other crises.
Under this initiative, eligible households can receive up to $200 in grants per utility (water, sewer, or electric) annually. To qualify, applicants must meet specific income guidelines—households earning at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level—along with requirements such as having an active utility account and being in arrears on their utility bills. - In Person: Visit PVWC’s payment window at 1525 Main Avenue, Clifton, Monday-Friday 7:30a-6:00p. Payment by cash, check, money order or credit card is accepted. PVWC also offers in-person appointments to help customers sign up for interest-free payment plans and discuss their water bills. Please contact customer service to schedule an appointment.

- Payment Plan: PVWC offers no-interest payment plans and extensions. Please contact customer service at 973-340-4300 to discuss payment plan options and avoid service disconnection.
- Walmart Pay & Participating Retailers: A $2.00 transaction fee for Walmart Pay and a $2.99 transaction fee for Cash Bill payments at participating retailers will be passed on to customers as a User Convenience Fee. To find participating retailers, customers must search using their ZIP code to see available locations in our easy-to-use Paymentus portal.
