PVWC Launches Valve Inspection and Operation Program

Published on June 15, 2026

(Clifton, N.J. – June 15, 2026) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has begun a valve inspection and operation program throughout its water distribution system. The program is part of PVWC's ongoing commitment to maintaining a reliable water supply and complying with New Jersey's Water Quality Accountability Act (WQAA).

The program will be conducted on weekdays (excluding holidays), weather permitting, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Inspections will begin in Paterson Zone 3 and continue throughout PVWC's service area over the coming months.

As part of the inspection process, PVWC crews will locate, access, clean, inspect, and operate distribution system valves to verify proper operation and identify maintenance needs. Regular valve inspections are critical to maintaining system reliability, improving emergency response capabilities, and ensuring that sections of the water distribution system can be isolated when necessary for repairs or maintenance.

During valve operation activities, some customers may experience temporary changes in water pressure or brief periods of water discoloration. Discoloration may occur when normal water flow patterns are altered, causing naturally occurring sediment within water mains to become temporarily suspended in the water.

Customers who experience discolored water are encouraged to run cold water from a faucet until the water clears. Residents should avoid doing laundry if discoloration is present, as sediment may stain clothing.

PVWC appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as crews perform this important infrastructure maintenance work.
