PVWC to Begin Paulison Avenue Water Main Replacement Project on July 6
Published on July 02, 2026
(Clifton, N.J. – July 2, 2026) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) will begin construction on a major water main replacement project along Paulison Avenue between Highland Avenue and Lincoln Street on Monday, July 6, 2026. The approximately $4 million infrastructure improvement project is expected to be completed in December 2026, weather permitting.
The project will replace approximately 4,800 linear feet of a critical 16-inch water main, originally installed in the mid-1920s, with a new 12-inch ductile iron water main, along with new valves, fire hydrants, and service connections. Construction will be performed by PACT One.
The existing water main has served the community for decades but has become increasingly susceptible to leaks and repairs due to its age, shallow installation depth, and the heavy traffic carried along Paulison Avenue. Replacing this vital section of pipeline will help reduce future service interruptions, improve system reliability, and provide long-term benefits for customers in both Clifton and Passaic.
"This project represents another important investment in modernizing our water infrastructure," said Yitz Weiss, Interim Executive Director of Passaic Valley Water Commission. "By replacing this aging transmission main, we're strengthening the reliability and resiliency of our water distribution system while enhancing fire protection and ensuring our communities continue to receive safe, dependable drinking water for decades to come."
The new water main will create a stronger, more interconnected transmission system by establishing a secondary transmission loop in the area. This increased redundancy will improve water flow, maintain more consistent pressure, and enhance the system's ability to continue delivering water during emergencies or future maintenance activities. The new main will also be installed at a greater depth, providing additional protection for this critical infrastructure.
Reliable water infrastructure is essential to supporting economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and public safety. This investment reflects PVWC's ongoing commitment to replacing aging infrastructure while building a more resilient water system for future generations.
Residents and motorists should expect temporary construction activity, including equipment, lane shifts, and parking restrictions in work areas during construction hours. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and maintain access throughout the project.
