(Clifton, N.J. – June 5, 2026) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) announces that the precautionary boil water advisory issued following repairs to the transmission main system in Clifton has been lifted.

Water quality testing throughout the affected area confirmed that the water meets all state and federal drinking water standards. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has reviewed the results and approved the removal of the advisory.

Customers in the affected area may resume normal water use for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and all other household purposes. It is no longer necessary to boil water before use.

Recommended Customer Actions

PVWC strongly encourages customers in the area where the advisory has been lifted to take the following precautionary steps to ensure clean water flows through their home plumbing and appliances:

  • Run all cold-water faucets for about 8–10 minutes to flush service connections and interior plumbing.
  • Thoroughly clean or replace showerheads and faucet aerators (screens).
  • Empty and clean automatic ice makers, water dispensers, and water chillers. Run ice makers through a full 24-hour cycle and discard the ice.
  • Flush refrigerator water dispensers for at least five minutes. Check manufacturer recommendations for filter replacement.
  • Regenerate or service water softeners/cartridge filters as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Drain and refill water reservoirs in tall buildings.
  • Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
